Buying handmade clothing is a little different from shopping on the high street...and that's a good thing!

At Alt Originals, our kids' clothing is handmade to order in a whole range of different styles and fits. A fitted garment won't measure the same as an oversized one, and age is only a guide. Children of the same age can vary hugely in height, build and proportions.

So before ordering, please take a few minutes to check the measurements below. 💜

💜 How to measure

The best way to choose the right size is to take your child's measurements using a soft tape measure.

When measuring:

• Keep the tape measure snug but not tight.
• Don't pull the tape into the body.
• Measure over lightweight clothing or normal underwear.
• Keep the tape level where appropriate.
• If possible, have someone else help with the measuring...wriggly children are not always the easiest measuring subjects! 😂

🖤 Please don't choose a size based purely on your child's age.

Our size ranges are a useful starting point, but actual measurements are the best way to choose the right size.

💜 Choosing between sizes

If your child's measurements fall neatly within one size, that's usually the best place to start. If they're between sizes, don't panic! The best choice can depend on the garment style, fabric and the fit you're looking for.

Some styles are designed to be fitted, while others are intentionally relaxed or oversized. A stretchy fabric can also fit differently from a more structured fabric. If you're unsure which size to choose, please get in touch before ordering. We'd much rather help you choose the right size before we make your garment.

🖤 A note about our different styles

We have a lot of different children's styles. From leggings and joggers to twirly dresses, oversized jumpers, dungarees and everything in between, they aren't all designed to fit in exactly the same way.

Some are designed to sit close to the body, some are deliberately roomy, some are made for maximum movement...and some are basically designed for children who apparently believe sitting still is against the law. 😂

Always check the individual product listing for any style-specific sizing or fit information.

💜 What if they're between sizes?

Children don't always fit neatly into one size...especially during those periods when they seem to grow overnight!

If your child's measurements sit between two sizes, think about:

• How you want the garment to fit
• Whether the style is fitted or relaxed
• How much growing room you'd like
• The amount of stretch in the fabric

🖤 Can you make alterations?

Because our clothing is handmade, we can sometimes accommodate small alterations such as a different length or measurement.

If you'd like something changed from the standard pattern, please contact us before ordering.

Some alterations may make the garment bespoke/customised, so we'll discuss what's possible with you before we start making it.

💜 Still not sure?

If you've measured your child and you're still thinking: “Right... I've got the measurements, but I still have absolutely no idea what size to choose.” That's okay. 😂

🖤 It's much easier to help you choose the right size before we make the garment than to try and fix a size that's already been made.
