Buying handmade clothing is a little different from buying from the high street – and that's a good thing!

At Alt Originals, our adult clothing is handmade to order, which means we work with a whole range of different garment styles and fits. A fitted dress isn't going to measure the same as an oversized jumper, and your usual high-street size isn't necessarily going to be the size you need here. So before you order, please take a few minutes to check your measurements. 💜

💜 How to measure

The best way to choose your size is to take your own body measurements using a soft tape measure.

When measuring yourself:

  • Keep the tape measure snug but not tight.
  • Don't pull the tape into your body.
  • Measure in your normal underwear or lightweight clothing.
  • Keep the tape level where appropriate.
  • If someone can help you measure, even better!

🖤 Please don't rely solely on your usual dress size or what size you normally buy from the high street. Our patterns and garment styles can fit differently, so measurements are always the best guide.

🖤 Your measurements

Bust - Measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level across your back.

Waist - Measure around your natural waist, usually the narrowest part of your torso.

Hips - Measure around the fullest part of your hips and bum.

Inside Leg - For trousers, leggings and other full-length bottoms, measure from the top of your inside leg down to where you want the garment to finish.

💜 Choosing between sizes

If your measurements fall neatly within one size, that's usually the best place to start. If you're between sizes, don't panic! The best size can depend on the garment style and the fit you're looking for.

A relaxed or oversized garment may give you plenty of room, whereas a fitted style may need more consideration. If you're unsure which size to choose, please get in touch before ordering. We're happy to help where we can.

🖤 A note about handmade clothing

Unlike mass-produced high-street clothing, our garments aren't all made from one standard block. We have a whole wardrobe of different styles, from fitted crops and pencil skirts to oversized sweaters, flares, dresses, hoodies and everything in between.

That means the same size can look and feel different depending on the garment you've chosen.

Some styles are designed to be fitted, some are relaxed, some are oversized, some are deliberately roomy. And some are basically designed for maximum comfort because life's too short for uncomfortable trousers. 😂 Always read the individual product listing for any style-specific sizing information or options.

💜 What if I want a different fit?

Because our clothing is handmade, we're sometimes able to accommodate small alterations such as:

  • A longer or shorter length
  • A different waist measurement
  • Other minor fit adjustments

If you'd like something altered, please contact us before ordering.

Some alterations may count as a bespoke/customised request and may affect your returns rights, so we'll always discuss this with you before going ahead.
